Stories with Santa – Friday, December 13th at 6:30PM

On Friday, December 13th, the library hosts a very important guest.  Santa will pay us a visit to read stories and talk with children.  The jolly old elf makes time in his busy schedule every year to stop by the library.  Don’t miss him!  Kids can wear their pajamas if they like.  There will a chance to take photos following the story time.  Hope we see YOU in the library this month!

The Annual Book Sale is Coming July 18-20

It’s that time again!  Each year during Deposit’s Lumberjack Festival, the library holds its gigantic annual book sale.  Even though the Front Street construction project is ongoing, we still plan to hold our popular three day sale from July 18th through July 20th.  The sale will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on each of those days.  Look for the tents on the library lawn.  There will be thousands of books in all genres for all ages.  Most hardcovers will sell for $1.00 and paperbacks for 50 cents.  Stock up on summer reading.  See you at the sale!

Summer Reading Is Here!

The first day of summer has arrived, and the library’s Summer Reading Program has begun.  This year’s theme is “A Universe of Stories”.  To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first man on the moon, we will be featuring lots of stories and activities focused on space.

To kick off our program, all the students at Deposit Elementary School had the opportunity to visit the Kopernik Observatory’s portable planetarium on June 18th.  They saw the moon, the planets, and the constellations projected on the planetarium ceiling while learning a lot of facts about our universe.  It was a great hit with all who attended.

Programs at the library begin on July 8th.  There are weekly programs for ages 2- 15 and a Summer Reading Challenge for all ages.  Contact the library or stop by for more information.  We want to see YOU this summer!

National Library Week April 7-13

Spring has finally arrived, and with it comes National Library Week!  We are celebrating with special visits from our school friends and the return of weekly Toddler Time programs.  If you are a regular library patron, stop by to look over our new books and movies.  If you’ve never been to our library, come in and see what we have to offer.  Large print books, audiobooks, movies, magazines, a book sale room, a computer station, and a children’s room full of favorite stories.  It’s all there at the Deposit Free Library!  We hope to sign up many new patrons this month.  Will you be one of them?

Family Game Day on February 2

Saturday, February 2nd is Take Your Child to the Library Day.  We hope to see many of our young friends this Saturday.  Bring your children to check out a book (or several).  To help celebrate this special day, we are also making it fine-free!  If you have outstanding fines or overdue books, this would be the day to have your debts forgiven.  Please note that this offer only applies to fines for our library.  Fines owed to other libraries or charges for lost items will not be forgiven.

We are also holding a Family Game Day from 1:00-3:00.  Unplug your family for the afternoon and enjoy some old-fashioned board games.  We have many, but you are welcome to bring along a favorite of yours as well.  Hope to see you on Saturday!

Holiday Happenings at the Library

December is a busy month at the library.  All of our holiday books and DVDs are out on display for easy access.  Come in and choose one to put you in the holiday spirit.  We also have two special events planned for families.  On Saturday, December 8th, there will be a Christmas Craft Day, beginning at 1:30 p.m.  Children and their parents can make a variety of crafts and/or Christmas cards.  There will also be an opportunity to write letters to Santa.

On Friday, December 14th, the library hosts a very important guest.

Summer Wrap-Up

Another year…another successful Summer Reading Program!  We had a wonderful time with all of the kids and adults who took advantage of our special programming.  Why do we say it was a big success?  Here are some stats:  36 children and teens completed the Summer Reading Challenge.  They recorded a whopping 1,201 books read.  16 adults also took the challenge and recorded 218 books.  That’s a lot of reading!

Our summer dance camp offered 11 free classes with a total attendance of 209 people.   Story Times and Monday Club were well-attended.  Lego Club was expanded to two times amonth for the summer.  And we finished the summer with a lively performance by Jim Cruise the Spoon Man, attended by 88 people.  Whew!  We’re tired!  But we certainly proved that our library ROCKED this summer!

Monday Club for Teens and Tweens

If your kids are too old for Story Time, what can they do at the library?  This summer the answer to that question is to join the Monday Club.  It’s open to all children aged 9-16 and centers around a variety of activities.  The first meeting was held on July 9th.  Participants painted rocks to place around the community.  Each rock has directions to return it to the library, where the finders will be given a choice of a free book!

Monday Club will meet each Monday at 1:00 for the next five weeks.  Next week local photographer Mike Musante will demonstrate techniques for taking better pictures.  Puppetry, bell choirs, and playing with food are all in store for the upcoming weeks.  If you have a bored teen or tween at home this summer, give the club a try!

Free Dance Camp July 17-18

Our Dance Camp was so popular last summer that we are bringing it back!  Dance instructor / choreographer Beth Hesch will return to Deposit for two days of musical dancing fun.  And it’s FREE!  Classes will be offered for children aged 2-14.  Plans call for the following:  Creative Movement for 2-4 year-olds, Twinkletoes Class for ages 5-7, Fancy Feet Class for ages 8-10, and Future Stars Class for ages 11-14.  There will also be a special session for parents and their children on Tuesday evening, July 17.  All classes will be held at the State Theatre across the street from the library.

You don’t need to have any dance experience to join these classes.  All you need are enthusiasm, energy, and a desire to have fun dancing!  Pre-registration is required.  Classes are filling quickly.  Come to the library today to sign up.  Let’s Rock!
